Although the London Olympics 2012 has just signed-off and the Paralympics 2012 will have its curtains open on August 29, 2012 that would end on the 9th of the following month, people have not yet felt that the Olympic event is indeed finished. In fact, there are overwhelming news, which had been in circulation online, on newspapers, and in other social media sites. Aside from the winnings, and other good news that gave pride to most of the countries who brought home championship titles, and have collected medals, here are the top 10 London Olympics News 2012 and know why they became popular. Some of them have been the hottest topics in blogging sites, broadcasting companies, radios, and other social outlets that had drawn too much attention for the past two weeks.

10. The London Fire

While the organizers of the London Olympics 2012 were preparing the venue for the closing ceremony on Sunday, August 12, 2012,  fire started to blaze-up the London Recycling Center. In fact, authorities reported that it was the biggest fire that they have ever seen in the city of London. Nonetheless, they also made assurance that it will not affect the on-going event, specifically the last day of  2012 Olympics. When Sunday night came, the fire was totally under-control by the London Fire Brigade team.

9. Hassan Hirt Was Sent Home

It was the most disheartening and depressing time for the Russian athlete, named Hassan Hirt, when he was sent home after the result for the EPO test has been released showing a positive mark for the blood-boosting hormone EPO. The test was taken on August 03, 2012 while he was on training. It was his first time to participate in the Olympics, but when the results have been disclosed, the 32-year old athlete had to stop wherein he got eliminated on the 5,000m run during the first round heat.

8. The Bravery of Gary Barlow

Gary Barlow caught the hearts of not just his fans, but the spectators of the London 2012 closing ceremonies when he met his professional obligations to appear on the said event despite that his baby was declared stillborn. He could have chosen to stay with his wife, and comforted her during those times, but he honored the promises and agreements that he had made by facing the crowd, and sing from his heart, the honor and praises to all countries that joined and participated in the London Olympics 2012.

7. The Final Tally of Medals

It was a close fight for the team of United States against China when they tried to outshine each other’s medals and championship titles in this year’s Olympics. Of course, the hosting country and city, London got the fourth spot, proving that they can still perform and prove to the world that they can also share the same popularity and pride for doing their best and training their athletes. Third spot was the victory for Russia and the fifth rank belongs to Germany.

6. New World Record for a Russian Female

Elena Lashmanova who has actually represented Russia in a 20-kilometer race, took away the championship from Olga Kaniskina. She won the gold medal  by finishing 1 hour, 25 minutes, and 2 seconds wherein she was just 7 seconds leading from the former title holder on this field. In fact, in her interviews, she stated that it was the biggest achievement that she had, and it did happen in the London Olympics 2012. Nonetheless, the defeated champion has accepted his loss over the title that she was protecting, and she even made an affirmation that she did her very best.

5. The Hometown Medals

Britain got the 4^th spot in the final ranking wherein they received 29 gold medals, 17 silver medals, and 19 bronze medals. Overall, they received a total of 65 medals compared to the kind of effort and performance that they had shown on last Olympics held in Beijing, China. In fact, the whole team has managed to receive the last medal from the women’s modern pentathlon closing the totals medals received to 65.

4. The U.S.A. Dream & Redeem Team

If one would remember the dream team of United States of America was formed, which composed of 4 players and 2 coaches that actually completed the six hall of famers for the basketball league or competition. It is common knowledge that America always leads most of the world and international events, and they are truly winners in the truest sense of that word. That same team took away gold medal for the 1992 Summer Olympics which was held in Barcelona, Spain. Hence, in 1998, they only got a bronze medal, and there were series of losses after 1998, which made them to decide that they will fortify the team that they are going to send in the London Olympics 2012. Nonetheless, there were comparisons of the dream team in 1992 against the team who played in this year’s Olympics in London.

No one could really match the power and agility that Usain Bolt has shown for the past Olympics and even to lastest Olympics held in London. He has secured a remarkable position and record in the history of Olympics when he received three gold medals in three consecutive events. He is actually hailed as a living legend for winning and holding the title still for himself in 100m and 200m.

2. The Spice Girls Reunion at the Closing Ceremony

Everyone keeps on sharing the video of the reunion of the Spice Girls members on stage when they sung again that brought memories to their millions of fans when they became popular in the 1990s. This group was composed of Victoria Beckham, Melanie Chisholm, Melanie Brown, Geri Halliwell, and Emma Bunton. They did spice up the last day of London Olympics 2012 by singing their hits like Spice Up Your Life, and Wannabe. Despite of decades that they were not performing as one, people, especially their fans, have still recognized their popularity not just in 1990s, but even when they became one in London Olympics.
