1. Surf’s Up

An American comedy film staged in 2007, this Ash Brannon and Chris Buck film features a teenage rock hopper penguin who was determined to win the most important competition in the world of penguin surfing to prove his fellow penguins that he was more than just the “surfing fool” they credited him for. Together with his chicken friend, he joined the Big Z surfing competition in Pen Gu Island. Surf’s Up was produced in 2002 by Sony Pictures Animation and featured the voices of some of the biggest Hollywood stars such as James Woods, Jon Heder, Shia LaBeouf and Jeff Bridges. It generally received positive reviews from movie critics, saying its story was “certified fresh.”

2. March of the Penguins

A French documentary film that featured the annual journey of the Emperor of Penguins of the Antarctica Region, March of the Penguins was directed by renowned director Luc Jacquet and was co-produced by Bonne Pioche and the National Graphic Society. It took the staff of March of the Penguins one year to shoot the film, since it involved the breeding age of penguins where they leave their natural habitat, the ocean, to journey to their own breeding grounds to court and mate with a fellow penguin. In 2005, the film won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature and several other awards from the Broadcast Film Critics Association and the Online Film Critics Society Awards.

3. Mr. Popper’s Penguins

Mr. Popper’s Penguins is a book that was turned into a film in 2011. The story featured Mr. Popper, a poor house painter who resided in the Stillwater town with his family in the 1930’s. Years of residing in that place, the family met and took possession of a penguin which they named Captain Cook. Following their adoption of this male penguin, the family of Mr. Popper got another female penguin fresh from the zoo that eventually mated with Captain Cook. As the couple penguins had a total of 10 baby penguins, the Poppers family, threatened that the penguins might eat them, had to think of ways on how they could get rid of the thriving family of Captain Cook. The film adaptation of Mr. Popper’s Penguins was directed by Mark Waters and starred renowned actor Jim Carrey.

4. Cry of the Penguins

More commonly known as Mr. Forbush and the Penguins, Cry of the Penguins is a British penguin movie that was shown in 1971. This Arne Sucksdorff, Alfred Viola and Roy Boulting-directed film starred Oscar winners John Hurt and Hayley Mills and was filmed in Antarctica through the assistance of the Argentinian navy and army. Based on a bestselling novel written by Graham Billing, Cry of the Penguins was a story of a young and rich biologist who left his family and girlfriend to live with the creatures of the frozen South Antarctica.  The movie featured several footages of real penguins and their encounters with humans.

5. Farce of the Penguins

An American parody of the French documentary film entitled March of the Penguins, Farce of the Penguins is an award winning film that conquered the silver screen in 2007, featuring Samuel L. Jackson as its narrator and two other major characters dubbed by writer and director Bob Saget and Lewis Black. The film featured a wide array of slapstick talents and R-rated commentaries for live footages of penguins in Antarctica. The story was about a group of penguins who journeyed 70 miles towards their breeding grounds to find their mates and sleep with them. Somewhere along the way, the main characters, Carl and Jimmy, met a penguin named Marcus who loved bragging about his huge boom stick and bullying those who have small ones. The film generally featured the story of the three buddies towards their self-indulgent power of procreation ritual in Antarctica.

6. The Adventures of Scamper the Penguin

A penguin movie that was screened in 1986, The Adventures of Scamper the Penguin was directed by Gennadiy Sokolskiy and starred Hollywood stars Virginia Masters, David Miles Monson and William Oliver. It was released by Enoki Films and was originally entitled The Adventures of Small Penguin Lolo. This movie featured a story of two penguins who got stranded on a floating iceberg in Antarctica and were eventually caught by a man who wanted to sell them to the zoo for a price. In due course, the two penguins met another macaroni penguin who promised to help them escape from the hands of the greedy man. The Adventures of Scamper the Penguin generally tackled the life of penguins in Antarctica during spring.

7. The Penguins of Madagascar

The film adaptation of American CGI television show The Penguins of Madagascar, The Penguins of Madagascar is a spin-off feature film that will be starred by the penguins of the original television show that is currently being aired on Nickelodeon. Slated for release in 2015, the movie will feature the nine main characters of the Dream Works animation movie Madagascar, namely, the penguins Skipper, Kowalski, Private, Rico, the lemurs King Julian, Maurice and Mort, and the chimpanzees Mason and Phil. The film is expected to enjoy huge success the way the television show does now among kids and families, garnering several awards such as outstanding direction, best animated television program, favorite cartoon show and many more.

An Australian-American animated musical family film that was staged in 2006, Happy Feet was the first animated film produced by renowned film producer Kennedy Miller, together with Animal Logic, a visual design company. It was directed and co-written by George Miller and had its earliest release in the theatres of North America on November 17, 2006. The movie slotted in some live human actions in certain scenes but was never released on IMAX 3D due to budget constraints. It featured a little penguin named Mumble who had a terribly bad singing voice but was best at tap dancing—something that no other penguin could match. His story taught his viewers that uniqueness is more of a gift than a burden. The movie won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, BAFTA Award for Best Animated Film and a lot more.

9. Wallace & Gromit in the Wrong Trousers

Directed by Nick Park and Aardman Animations, The Wrong Trousers is an animation film that was staged in 1993 and featured the incredible duo, Wallace and Gromit. A dog, Gromit found himself being taken out of his own home by a tenant who happened to be a ruthless criminal. This criminal, a penguin, planned to rob the home of Gromit and sought to use Wallace and his new invention, a mechanical remote-controlled pair of trousers. By the end of the story, Wallace’s intelligence rose above that of the ruthless penguin and was able to save Gromit. The movie won the 1993 Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film.

10. The Pebble and the Penguin

Filmed in 1995, The Pebble and the Penguin was an animated musical film that featured the actual mating rituals of Adelie Penguins residing in Antarctica. It was produced by Don Bluth and Gary Goldman and featured the story of a penguin named Hubie who was so in love with another penguin named Marina. The two encountered several challenges before they finally became an item and had children.

10. Mud Bowl

An annual sports event played in knee-deep mud, the Mud Bowl is a highly amusing sports event normally held at the Hog Coliseum in North Conway, N.H. This sport is also known as “the championships of mud football” and is commonly participated in by teams made up of clans and several grand marshals from New England. Families engage in zany games such as the Mud Bowl as part of their annual festivity called “The Tournament of Mud Parade.” Participants in this fun sports event join to raise money for local charities in New England, the most common of which are the North Conway Day Care, North Conway Community Centre and the Carroll County Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

9. World Urban Golf Day

Every year, 30 countries around the world participate in the World Urban Golf Day—an event that promotes Urban Golf as a sport. This international event is held in a “live aid” style of format and has been one of the most exciting street sports since its inception six years ago, especially in Australia. Australian golf enthusiasts participate in the annual Urban Golf Australia to raise thousands of dollars for several charities, particularly Father Chris Riley’s Youth Off the Streets Program. Normally, golfers who take the streets to take part in the annual World Urban Golf Day are clad in their fun golfing attires and bring with them their own pitching wedges and golf balls. Sometime in the past, however, a photographer spotted a woman who participated in the sports event and pitched a tennis ball, not a golf ball.

Since its inception in 1996, the Summer Redneck Games has been an annual major event in East Dublin. For the last decade, about 95,000 individuals from the United States have been participating in the one-day event, which features a host of fun sports such as the Hubcap Hurl, the Bobbin’ for Pig’s Feet Fest and the Redneck Horseshoes. More than pleasurable and energy-sucking, the Summer Redneck Games is known for being among the dirtiest sports event to have ever been incepted, akin to Mud Bowl. 7. Water Hockey

A non-contact sport that was invented in 1954 by four sporty individuals who sought to have a means to stay fit even during winter, underwater hockey is pretty much like ice hockey, except that players of this sport compete underwater. Underwater hockey players are grouped into two teams and compete against each other in maneuvering a puck across the bottom of a swimming pool until they arrive at their goals. The puck is a sports equipment made from vulcanized rubber and usually serves as a ball, especially in conditions when the use of a ball is unfeasible. If one is to create a list of the oddest sports events that exist today, the Cardboard Tube events certainly won’t miss a spot. Every year, the Cardboard Tube Fighting League (CFTL) spearheads sports events that are based on cardboard tubes, of all sports equipment there are. The cardboard duelling event happens every year in several parts of the world, including San Francisco, California, Sydney, Australia and Seattle, Washington, above all. The cardboard tube events are held during summertime in public parks and encourage participants to crack down on fun over competition. This odd sports event was started by Robert Easley, who used to love hitting his enemies with cardboard tubes as a child. 5. Dodgeball

Dodgeball is a sport participated in by two teams whose fundamental objective is to throw large balls against their opponents without being hit by the balls their opponents throw to them. Typically, this sports event is played by kids 6-12 years of age, though it has evolved into a popular informal game played by people of all ages in not-so-formal recreational settings such as playgrounds and barren lands. The normal number of balls used in an episode of a dodgeball game is three. Sometime in the past, however, the largest dodgeball game, which featured larger than life figures, was held in Manhattan, USA. 4. Dirty Dash

Dubbed as “the dirtiest race,” Dirty Dash is a race that lets people look at race events in a whole new dimension. It is a mud run obstacle course where, according to its organizers, “military boot camp meets your inner five-year fantasies.” Because of the backbreaking and grubby stunts involved in joining dirty dash, this all-fun event is said to transform boys into men, and men into swine. Participants, normally boys, race through a long, extremely dirty and exigent obstacle course until they finish the race stinking after dipping into a pit of mud. 3. Outhouse Race

Every year, thousands of people come out to witness what is known today as the oddest sporting event in the upper Peninsula—the Outhouse Race. This race happens along the snow-covered Main Street and is held under changing themes every year. In this sports event, participants go on head-to-head races under different divisions, normally depending on their age and height. Watchers of this special festivity often shout out the names of their bets all throughout the competition, so it is always raucous right the way through the end. Considered as a hybrid sport that fuses chess and boxing in sporadic rounds, chess boxing is a not so popular sport that was introduced in 1992. Invented by French artist Enki Bilal in a comic book that he once wrote, chess boxing requires players to be good at playing both chess and boxing at the same time, as this can be won either way. For a specified period of time, both players box at the boxing rink, then go down the rink to play chess. The first real sports event of its kind was organized in 2003 in Denmark, until its thrill has become viral among the people of Berlin, Germany and London, United States. Fondly known as the most taxing one-day survival ordeal in the world, the Tough Guy Competition is an extreme challenge that has never been finished by anyone since its first staging in 1987. Because of the tests involved in joining this arduous sports event, many people describe it as “the toughest race in the world.” It has been staged 25 times since 1987 and has suffered two fatalities throughout its history. Who would not know this crazy aleck, witty talking, smarty-pants, sarcastic, lazy, and hungry housecat? Garfield, just like its real life counterparts, does not talk and rarely purrs. However, he speaks his mind so loud that you will have an idea of what he will do next, whether he would pester his master, John, or play along with the housedog, Odie. Before the orange cat was seen in TV screens, he first appeared in a comic strip back in June 19, 1978, which was created by Jim Davis. The fame was so great that he was known worldwide, which made it easy for the two latest CG movies to garner huge ticket sales everywhere. Even until today, the franchise can still be seen with clothes, stationeries, notebooks, and other school supplies.

8. Wile E. Coyote

One-half of the tandem together with the fast-running Road Runner, Wile E. Coyote has been well known for being a flop when trying to capture the hasty bird. In fact, as you watch over 40 episodes of their chase in the wilderness, you could see the coyote purchase goods from Acme such as rockets, roller skates, bombs, giant slings, anvils, and even paste, just to be able to catch him. The products is just one part of the funny story. The other hilarious part has something to do with the blueprints he gets in order to create the contraption that would make the perfect catch, which fails 99.99% of the time. Kids hate green leafy vegetables such as broccoli and spinach. But when the comic strip and the cartoon show Popeye was viewed by kids of all ages, they have learned one lesson, that vegetables are healthy and good to eat as it makes a person strong. This is why Popeye has been loved not only by children, but by parents too, because it became easier for them to feed kids with those vegetables considered as yucky and gross. The exploits of this powerful sailor began back in January 1979 as part of the Thimble Theater comics. Characters such as Olive Oyl, Brutus, and Wimpy had made an impact in the lives of many people. They had even appeared in movies, video games, and was even loved in the form of toys, dolls, and other merchandise.

Charles M. Schulz has been very successful in creating a character that experiences many failures in life, as seen in the life story of Charlie Brown, the main protagonist in the comic strip Peanuts. He can be described as a child that has many dreams and aspirations, but a failure in all of them. Despite of being a guy that has bad luck, no matter what kind of activity he is engaged in, Charlie is still smart and thoughtful, while being doubtful and insecure. This has been the same guy since 1947, even in the last days when he was last read in a comic strip sometime in 2000.

Homer Simpson is considered the original family guy with his wife, Marge, and three kids, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. This family living in Springfield is nothing like you average family. However, Homer is an epitome of most dads that live their life at work and spends time with friends. “Eh, what’s up doc?” is a famous catchphrase that’s known all over the world, where only a certain rabbit is remembered with that line, while chewing a carrot and irritating characters like Elmer Fudd or Samity Sam. Bugs Bunny is taken to be the most loved cartoon character for his level of wit, genius, and creativity. He knows very much how to crack jokes, and he often makes a fool of everyone he comes across with, even with Porky Pig or Daffy Duck. He was born back in July 27, 1940 under the baseball field of the Brooklyn Dodgers, inside his rabbit home. His artist Tex Avery and voice actor Mel Blanc were able to create a character that can just be taken as adorable and funny.

10. Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, and Jose Carreras

Known as The Three Tenors, the late Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, and Jose Carreras were seen singing in concerts, football games, in operas, and other staged performances. You have heard these three chipmunks sing their songs in the airwaves, singing to the tunes of “All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth”, and other hits like “Christmas Don’t Be Late”, “Macarena”, and more. Alvin, Simon, and Theodore are three singing chipmunks that are being handled and taken care of by manager, Dave Seville. These guys have been created by Ross Bagdasarian Sr., where he sings all three voices in different pitches and then speeds them up to sound tiny and high-pitched. It was very surprising that the chipmunks, including Dave, and even the Chippettes have been successful, despite of the simple trick that can easily be done these days. From the music scene, to cartoons, and even in 3D movies, the singing trio made their way to success, even beyond imagination.

7. Huey, Dewey, and Louie

First known in the Silly Symphonies comic strip created by Disney being published in newspapers, Huey, Dewey, and Louie appeared as Donald Duck’s nephews even as early as October 17, 1937. It is also surprising to know that the names of these three ducklings came from three animators that worked at the Disney Studio, namely Huey Long, Thomas Dewey, and Louis Schmitt. The nephews also appeared at a time when Mickey Mouse’s nephews, Morty and Ferdie Fieldmouse have been introduced. They also became noted in the Disney TV animation series, Ducktales, where their association with Uncle Scrooge McDuck was apparent in most of its episodes. Even though they look alike, you could easily identify them with Huey wearing red, Dewey wearing blue, and Louie being green.

6. Moe, Larry, and Curly

Even though the Three Stooges act was more famous back in the earlier years from 1925 until the 1980s , the acts of Moe, Larry, and Curly defined a different form of comedy, something that is more noisy, a bit nonsense, and a whole lot of funny. Back during the early days of the show, Ted Healy named the show “Ted Healy and His Southern Gentlemen”, “Ted Healy and His Stooges”, and “Ted Healy and His Three Lost Souls”, using the characters of Moe, Larry, and Shemp. However, everything changed when Shemp left to perform solo, and Curly came into the picture, which was also the time that the title “The Three Stooges” was created. Lots of movies and shorts have been created because of their funny antics, which made many generations laugh their hearts out. However, due to old age and disease-stricken characters, the Stooges ended their act sometime in the 80s.

Though you may anticipate that a crowd will be shaking on the space in the middle, the lights, the jumping, and the energy is just too overrated for a group shake ey!

Workers inside Maker Studios actually consented on this 30-second mayhem that all of them found within the huge office area have agreed on performing the crazy dance. Toyota has indeed made things “Let’s Go Places” quite literal in this Super Bowl ad, thanks to a Rav4 Genie that appeared after rubbing the car. The wishes have been kinda funny with everything staring at the old spare tire gone. Everything else after that became wild with talking squirrels, eating as many chocolates as possible, with a daughter playing princess a la Joanne of Arc, and a son that went to space with the family car. So, are you going places?

Samsung is trying to be funny in this Super Bowl ad by actually stating “Super Bowl” is a trademarked word and that it can never be mentioned. The same also applies with San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens. Though some may not even relay to what people meant with “San Francisco 50 minus 1ers” or the “Baltimore Black Birds”, you may get the joke of the whole thing if you could remember Apple suing Samsung for the many things that was deemed as trademark infringement. So what’s the next big thing? It wasn’t LeBron James, that’s for sure!
