Also known as aeroplane, an airplane is a fixed-wing aircraft that was discovered by the Wright brothers. Airplanes are propelled forward through their propellers and jet engines and come in different sizes and wing configurations. They are used for the transportation of goods and people, in the military, for recreation and research. Though most airplanes are run by a pilot, there are airplanes today that are especially designed to be controlled by computers and remotes. According to history, the first artificial and self-propelled flying device was invented in 400BC by the Greeks.  These flying devices deviated from the airplanes of the 18^th century which featured fixed wings and separate systems for lift, propulsion and control. Modern airplanes have complex flight control systems and contain main controls that help the pilot in controlling the speed, altitude and direction of the flight.

Usually used to refer to a vehicle, vessel or machine that flies in the outer space, a spacecraft is used for a broad range of purposes, such as for communication, meteorology, navigation, planetary and exploration. This type of vehicle enters the space on a sub-orbital flight and normally gets into closed orbits revolving around the Earth or other celestial bodies. Spacecrafts can be used to carry people as crew or passengers while others use robots either for space probes or to support scientific research. By design, most orbital spacecrafts re enter the earth and get divided into non-winged space capsules or winged space planes. The first artificial satellite that was used to probe space was Sputnik 1 and it was launched by the Soviet Union into an elliptical low Earth orbit.

A computer is a device that can be programmed to perform different arithmetic and logical operations. This device consists of a processing element called as the central processing unit (CPU) and a memory. Its CPU is the component that executes the arithmetic and logic operations that are inputted in them. The first computers were electronic digital computers that were developed sometime between 1940 and 1945. These computers were about the size of a spacious room and consumed power that went as much as the power consumed by hundreds of modern personal computers today. Most of the computers that are known today are based on integrated circuits and are more than a billion times more capable than the earliest computers. They are small enough to fit mobile devices such as mobile phones and industrial robots. Also, they occupy just a small fraction of the space occupied by the first electronic digital computers.

An automobile or a car is a wheeled motor vehicle that is primarily used in the transportation of goods and people. It carries its own engine or motor and is designed to run on roads. A typical modern automobile has four wheels and has a seating for about one to eight people. It is estimated that today, the number of automobiles around the world today is about one billion and continues to increase rapidly, particularly in highly populated nations such as China and India. In 1672, the first steam-powered vehicle was designed and built by a man named Ferdinand Verbiest. His discovery was just about 65-cm long car toy that he especially made for the Emperor of China, and it could barely carry a driver or a single passenger. The first full-scale and self propelled automobile was discovered by Nicolas Joseph Cugnot sometime in 1769.

Known as a telecommunications device that allows people from different vicinities and locations to have conversations, a telephone is an engineering discovery that converts human voice into electronic signals that are suitable for transmission via wires and cables over lengthy distances. Telephones allow these electronic signals to become as audible as possible to the user from the other line. Its name was derived from Greek words tele and phone, which mean far and voice, respectively. The first of its kind was invented in 1876 by renowned scientist Alexander Graham Bell, who made a patented telephone device that allowed people to talk directly with each other even when they are separated by large distances. Today, telephones are considered as one of the most valuable discoveries in the field of engineering because they are indispensable to businesses, households and the government.

An air conditioner is a major home appliance or mechanism that is especially designed to change the temperature and humidity of a closed area such as a room As its name suggests, it is basically used for cooling and it does this thru a process called refrigeration cycle, though in the cooling of buildings and motor vehicles, the process of evaporation is more common. In the field of construction, air conditioners come as a complete system that can be used for heating, ventilation as well as air conditioning. The concept of air conditioning was first use during the second century, when a Chinese inventor named Ding Huan of the Han Dynasty created a rotary fan to condition the air. This appliance contained seven wheels that were three meters each in diameter. Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, on the other hand, introduced in 747 A.D. water powered fan wheels for air conditioning.

A public road or public way on land, the term highway refers to arterials that are controlled by a state or a provincial agency. The first modern highway systems were developed during the 20^th century, along with the rising popularity of automobiles. The first limited access road was built in 1992 in Italy, while the construction of the first autobahn started in 1929 and was opened three years later in Cologne. The discovery of highways is one of the most important discoveries in the field of engineering as they reduce travel times relative to city or town streets as well as increase the chances for the transportation of people and goods. Modern highways are helpful in the reduction of commute and travel time as well as in the creation of new induced traffic demand.

Optical fibre is a transparent and flexible fibre that can be made either of glass or plastic. Today, this is known to serve different functions such as a wave guide or a light pipe. The design and application of optical fibres, dubbed as fibre optics, are works of science and engineering. Optical fibres are used these days in fibre optic communications which makes possible the transmission of sounds or signals over long distances through high bandwidths. Optical fibres made of metal wires are also used to carry signal with less loss and to make possible the immunization of electromagnetic interference. A television or TV is a telecommunication device that works in the transmission and reception of moving images, whether monochrome or coloured. Its name was derived from Greek words tele and visio, which mean far and sight, respectively. The batch of manufactured televisions became commercially available in the late 1920’s. Since then, they have become common in homes and businesses and are used in advertising, broadcasting and entertainment. The first electromechanical television system was patented in 1884 by a man named Paul Gootlieb Nipkow. This was just about four years after the concept of electrically powered transmission of television images was introduced in America as “telephonoscope.”

A global system of interconnected computer networks, the Internet is a network of networks that is made up of millions of various private and public networks that are linked together through electronic, wireless and optical networking technologies. This carries a broad range of information such as inter-linked hypertext documents. The concept of Internet began in the 1960’s, when research on packet switching was first conducted along with the development of packet switched networks. The term Internet was coined in 1974 to refer to internetworking, which was followed by the introduction of the concept of the Internet Protocol Suite (IPS) in 1982.

10. Home schooling

Home schooling or home-based education is common among mothers. Unlike schooling in a formal setting, home schooling involves staying at home and doing assignments given by a tutor. Though this practice has been adopted as an alternative form of education in other nations, most people still believe that going to a formal school is better than staying at home to study.

Some parents opt for home based education for their children for a broad range of reasons. Most of the time, mothers who opt for home schooling for their children are those who would not want their children to get bullied in crowded classrooms. Also, these mothers believe that it is better to study at home because it is more conducive for learning and it helps children achieve better focus when studying. This is hardly possible in a classroom setting, where 30-50 students normally crowd a single classroom and not everyone gets the same attention from the teacher.

Vaccination involves the administration of a vaccine to an infant to stimulate his immune system, thus allowing him to develop adaptive immunity to pathogens. The common notion is that when a child gets vaccinated, he is less likely to catch diseases in the future because he is already immune to those diseases. Sometime in the past, however, there was a doctor who conducted a study and published a book that stated that the development of autism and other neurological conditions stem from vaccination. Since then, a good number of mothers have been opting not to get their babies vaccinated when in reality, they should. Just recently, the medical license of the doctor who published the misleading study was taken from him because of the confusion that he spurred among mothers. Since his study was published, there came a rise in the number of communicable diseases afflicting children.

8. Cloth Diapers vs. Disposable Diapers

Whether to use cloth diapers or disposable diapers has been a bone of contention among mothers. Both diapers have their own share of advantages and disadvantages, but mothers have got to pick the one whose advantages outweigh its disadvantages. Disposable diapers are reusable and create less waste than disposable diapers. Also, this kind of diaper is far less costly than disposable diapers because these diapers are washable while disposable diapers are not. For most mothers, however, disposable diapers are more convenient because they never have to wash every now and then. All they just have to do is to make sure that they never run out of stock.  Also, they are more breathable and convenient, because with disposable diapers, they do not need to deal with complicated folds and pins. Some mothers who prefer cloth diapers, however, complain that disposable diapers increase the risk of diaper rash among their babies.

Mothers have different concepts of discipline. For some, spanking their children is the right way to teach their children discipline, while for some, this is not the way to go. A recent study in the United States showed that more than one third of parents in the United States prefer to spank their kids so they will be forced to behave as their parents would want them to. Whenever a child does something wrong, what most parents do is spank the child so he would learn his lesson. Several mothers go up against this practice, saying that using physical force does not teach children discipline but fear towards their parents. These mothers believe that they can bring up their child into becoming well-rounded individuals even without having to inflict physical pain on them.  Mothers can choose not to become violent in rearing their children, though this is case-sensitive.

Most mothers would prefer feeding their babies with organic products, believing that they are healthier. While it is true that eating organics allows one to reduce his exposure to chemicals, many experts believe that it is not always so. In fact, a large group of pediatricians recently revealed that parents who buy organic food for their children are actually wasting money. Experts say that to believe that organic products are more nutritious than non-organic products is nothing but a false notion because the nutritional differences between conventional food and organic food are far more minimal than most mothers think. Most mothers also use organic milk to feed their babies believing that it is more nutritious than the processed ones, when in fact, it is not worth it. Mothers who are working on a limited budget should not go for organic because they are costly. Those who have more than enough budget argue that organic is still better, though.

5. Attachment Parenting

Attachment parenting refers to the tendency of a child to develop or form very strong emotional bond with his mother. One of the practices that lead to attachment parenting are co-sleeping with babies until they come of age, extended breast feeding and baby wearing. Some mothers believe that practicing attachment parenting allows them to produce healthier and better nurtured babies and children. On the other hand, those who oppose the practice believe that it only delays the socio emotional development and well-being of the child because he tends to become too much dependent on his mother. Today, the population of mothers is halved by this practice. Those who are up for attachment parenting argue that the practice is nothing but a simple demonstration of love, while those who think otherwise argue that this is detrimental to the development of a child and will do no good to him.

4. Breast-feeding vs. Bottle-feeding

Determining whether to breastfeed or bottle-feed her baby is one of the first decisions that an expectant mother makes. Because the very first thing that a baby looks for as he gets out of her mother’s womb is milk, this is one of the most basic decisions that a woman makes as she enters motherhood. The common notion is that breast milk is the most valuable source of nutrition for babies because it helps defend the baby from harmful infections as well as protect him from allergies and other chronic conditions. But working mothers would prefer bottle-feeding their babies because they need to earn money and go to work. These mothers cannot afford to stay at home and breastfeed their babies the entire day, unless the earnings of their husbands are enough to provide for the needs of the family.

Cesarean section is a surgical procedure that is performed when a mother gives birth, characterized by one or more incisions made on her abdomen and uterus to deliver her baby. Normally, this procedure is the last resort when vaginal delivery poses death risk either on the mother or the child. Nowadays, however, some mothers who are capable of normal vaginal delivery would still opt for cesarean section because it is less painful. In fact, celebrities are known to have scheduled caesarean sections even months before the due date of the baby. This practice has been emulated by several mothers today, believing that this makes the birth of the child more convenient. Those who go for vaginal delivery argue that those who go for C-sections are harder to recover compared to those who go for normal delivery.

A melodramatic movie about an impoverished woman who raised her son with dignity despite life’s challenges, Mother India was directed by Indian director Mehboob and starred Indian artists Nargis, Sunil Dutt, Rajendra Kumar and Raaj Kumar. This movie was a remake of the movie of Mehboob Khan entitled Aurat which was staged in 1940 and featured a poor woman who struggled in raising her sons and eventually went on top of an evil money lender. Mother India is a good choice for Mother’s Day since it demonstrates the goddess-like example of mothers. Even today, this film is ranked among the top grossing movies of India and is often described as “an all-time Indian blockbuster.”

9. Steel Magnolias (1989)

Shown in year 1989, Steel Magnolias was directed by Robert Harling and featured the story of the friendship of a bunch of women from a parish in the Natchitoches, Louisiana. This movie was starred by Sally Field, Olympia Dukakis, Daryl Hannah, Shirley MacLaine and Julia Roberts and was based on a play that was staged two years prior to its showing, entitled Steel Magnolias. The director of the film, Robert Harling, was inspired to do the film following the death of his sister. 8. Cheaper by the Dozen (2003)

Directed by Shawn Levy, Cheaper by the Dozen was a story of a father who lived with his wife and his dozen kids while he was experiencing a grave struggle in his new job. This American family comedy film took its title from the biography of a man named Frank Bunker Gilbreth and his wife Lillian Maller Gilbreth who had a problem raising their twelve children. Both the title and the concept of a family having a dozen kids were greatly inspired by the story of the couple, though it greatly deviated from the original Cheaper by the Dozen book. The film was released in year 2003 and was produced by the 20^th Century Fox.

It was in Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore that Ellen Burstyn got her first Best Actress award from the Academy Awards.

Pakula, Sophie’s Choice featured the story of a woman who survived the Nazi concentration camps and was able to find a reason to live her life the way she used to in the character of a man named Nathan. This romantic drama movie starred Kevin Kline, Peter Mac Nicol, Rita Karin and renowned Hollywood actress Meryl Streep. In this film, Sophie was a Polish immigrant who fell in love with a sparkling lover and lived under the same roof as a young writer from Brooklyn. Sophie’s Choice won Meryl Streep one of her earliest Academy Awards for Best Actress as it is considered even today as one of her finest performances in the silver screen.

An American musical film that was staged in 1962, Gypsy was based on a Broadway hit that featured the life of a burlesque dancer named Gypsy Rose Lee together with her stage mother Mama Rose. This movie was film-produced and directed by Mervyn Leroy and was an adaptation of a stage musical that was completed by 1959 entitled Gypsy: A Musical Fable by Arthur Laurents. This play was also adopted from another earlier play entitled “Gypsy: A Memoir by Gypsy Rose Lee. The main character in this movie was able to bring down a giant California-based power company that was accused of polluting the water supply of the city. Erin Brockovich starred Albert Finney, Dawn Didawick, David Brisbin and Julia Roberts who played the role of Erin. In real life, this character fought against the US West Coast Energy Corporation Pacific Gas and Electrical Company. This film can be an excellent choice for Mother’s Day since it demonstrates the empowerment of women in the 20^th century.

Terms of Endearment is the best movie to watch this Mother’s Day as it tackles how far a mother can go for the love of her daughter.

An American comedy film staged in 2007, this Ash Brannon and Chris Buck film features a teenage rock hopper penguin who was determined to win the most important competition in the world of penguin surfing to prove his fellow penguins that he was more than just the “surfing fool” they credited him for. Together with his chicken friend, he joined the Big Z surfing competition in Pen Gu Island. Surf’s Up was produced in 2002 by Sony Pictures Animation and featured the voices of some of the biggest Hollywood stars such as James Woods, Jon Heder, Shia LaBeouf and Jeff Bridges. It generally received positive reviews from movie critics, saying its story was “certified fresh.”

A French documentary film that featured the annual journey of the Emperor of Penguins of the Antarctica Region, March of the Penguins was directed by renowned director Luc Jacquet and was co-produced by Bonne Pioche and the National Graphic Society. It took the staff of March of the Penguins one year to shoot the film, since it involved the breeding age of penguins where they leave their natural habitat, the ocean, to journey to their own breeding grounds to court and mate with a fellow penguin. In 2005, the film won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature and several other awards from the Broadcast Film Critics Association and the Online Film Critics Society Awards.

Mr. Popper’s Penguins is a book that was turned into a film in 2011. The story featured Mr. Popper, a poor house painter who resided in the Stillwater town with his family in the 1930’s. Years of residing in that place, the family met and took possession of a penguin which they named Captain Cook. Following their adoption of this male penguin, the family of Mr. Popper got another female penguin fresh from the zoo that eventually mated with Captain Cook. As the couple penguins had a total of 10 baby penguins, the Poppers family, threatened that the penguins might eat them, had to think of ways on how they could get rid of the thriving family of Captain Cook. The film adaptation of Mr. Popper’s Penguins was directed by Mark Waters and starred renowned actor Jim Carrey.

More commonly known as Mr. Forbush and the Penguins, Cry of the Penguins is a British penguin movie that was shown in 1971. This Arne Sucksdorff, Alfred Viola and Roy Boulting-directed film starred Oscar winners John Hurt and Hayley Mills and was filmed in Antarctica through the assistance of the Argentinian navy and army. Based on a bestselling novel written by Graham Billing, Cry of the Penguins was a story of a young and rich biologist who left his family and girlfriend to live with the creatures of the frozen South Antarctica.  The movie featured several footages of real penguins and their encounters with humans.

An American parody of the French documentary film entitled March of the Penguins, Farce of the Penguins is an award winning film that conquered the silver screen in 2007, featuring Samuel L. Jackson as its narrator and two other major characters dubbed by writer and director Bob Saget and Lewis Black. The film featured a wide array of slapstick talents and R-rated commentaries for live footages of penguins in Antarctica. The story was about a group of penguins who journeyed 70 miles towards their breeding grounds to find their mates and sleep with them. Somewhere along the way, the main characters, Carl and Jimmy, met a penguin named Marcus who loved bragging about his huge boom stick and bullying those who have small ones. The film generally featured the story of the three buddies towards their self-indulgent power of procreation ritual in Antarctica.

An Australian-American animated musical family film that was staged in 2006, Happy Feet was the first animated film produced by renowned film producer Kennedy Miller, together with Animal Logic, a visual design company. The movie slotted in some live human actions in certain scenes but was never released on IMAX 3D due to budget constraints. A dog, Gromit found himself being taken out of his own home by a tenant who happened to be a ruthless criminal. This criminal, a penguin, planned to rob the home of Gromit and sought to use Wallace and his new invention, a mechanical remote-controlled pair of trousers. By the end of the story, Wallace’s intelligence rose above that of the ruthless penguin and was able to save Gromit. The movie won the 1993 Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film.

Filmed in 1995, The Pebble and the Penguin was an animated musical film that featured the actual mating rituals of Adelie Penguins residing in Antarctica. Harry Potter was able to make friends with Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger on his first few days at Hogwarts, making the trio inseparable no matter the kind of adventure and situation they could get themselves in. The team’s popularity also expanded in the movies, seeing the trio grow together and facing the good times and bad times of their lives.

You have heard these three chipmunks sing their songs in the airwaves, singing to the tunes of “All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth”, and other hits like “Christmas Don’t Be Late”, “Macarena”, and more. Alvin, Simon, and Theodore are three singing chipmunks that are being handled and taken care of by manager, Dave Seville. These guys have been created by Ross Bagdasarian Sr., where he sings all three voices in different pitches and then speeds them up to sound tiny and high-pitched. It was very surprising that the chipmunks, including Dave, and even the Chippettes have been successful, despite of the simple trick that can easily be done these days. From the music scene, to cartoons, and even in 3D movies, the singing trio made their way to success, even beyond imagination.

7. Huey, Dewey, and Louie

First known in the Silly Symphonies comic strip created by Disney being published in newspapers, Huey, Dewey, and Louie appeared as Donald Duck’s nephews even as early as October 17, 1937. It is also surprising to know that the names of these three ducklings came from three animators that worked at the Disney Studio, namely Huey Long, Thomas Dewey, and Louis Schmitt. The nephews also appeared at a time when Mickey Mouse’s nephews, Morty and Ferdie Fieldmouse have been introduced. They also became noted in the Disney TV animation series, Ducktales, where their association with Uncle Scrooge McDuck was apparent in most of its episodes. Even though they look alike, you could easily identify them with Huey wearing red, Dewey wearing blue, and Louie being green.

6. Moe, Larry, and Curly

Even though the Three Stooges act was more famous back in the earlier years from 1925 until the 1980s , the acts of Moe, Larry, and Curly defined a different form of comedy, something that is more noisy, a bit nonsense, and a whole lot of funny. Back during the early days of the show, Ted Healy named the show “Ted Healy and His Southern Gentlemen”, “Ted Healy and His Stooges”, and “Ted Healy and His Three Lost Souls”, using the characters of Moe, Larry, and Shemp. However, everything changed when Shemp left to perform solo, and Curly came into the picture, which was also the time that the title “The Three Stooges” was created. Lots of movies and shorts have been created because of their funny antics, which made many generations laugh their hearts out. However, due to old age and disease-stricken characters, the Stooges ended their act sometime in the 80s.

It was a good thing that the title of the series is as it is today. Otherwise, viewers may not be interested watching the show seeing that Alley Cats are making their way into solving missions from someone who does not show his face. If it was not for Charles Townsend, these three girls who graduated from the Los Angeles Police Academy could have lived their lives as normal policewomen, not enjoying the life of being private investigators. At least, mission briefing would not be as mysterious as it is, thanks to Bosley who’s there to address different concerns.

4. Athos, Porthos, and Aramis

The Three Musketeers, namely Athos, Porthos, and Aramis, are friends that are bound together in fulfilling their responsibilities as members of the Musketeer of the Guard. In fact, when d’Artagnan was about to enter the order of the musketeers, he had to duel each of them due to his planned heroic acts, which is actually the very role that was supposed to be played by the three. Nevertheless, he was able to gain their respect, which makes d’Artagnan included in the group of three. Famous for the lines “All for one, one for all” which was put up by d’Artagnan, the Three Musketeers have found their way into liking the fourth member. And together, they have fought to vanquish evil, as was written by the creator of the novel, Alexander Dumas.

3. Peter, James, and John

Peter, James, and John were among the first few apostles that have been called right after Jesus Christ fasted for forty days in beginning his ministry, after overcoming the temptations of Satan and receiving instructions from angels sent by His Father. They met in Galilee while Peter and Andrew were catching fishes. Jesus invited the two to be fishers of men, and the two followed him, leaving their nets behind. James and John also received the same invitation and left everything, including their father. Peter, James, and John were not only considered to be prominent members of the apostleship for only being called the first. In fact, there are many important events in Christ’s life that involved the presence of these three including Jesus’ transfiguration and His atonement in the Mount of Olives in Gethsemane.

Three men that have been spoken in the bible as the Wise Men of the East, although there have never been accounts that the said number of these wise men were actually three. However, the reference to such number has been due to the gifts that were given to Jesus Christ after his birth in Bethlehem where gold, myrrh, and frankincense were presented. The names of Melchior, Gaspar, and Balthazar were also never found within the texts of the scripture, attributing everything to tradition from various countries near the place where “the East” is located, which could be attributed to locations such as Persia, Arabia, and India. Their roles were cut short when an angel appeared to them in a dream, warning them to never return to King Herod. Thus, they have gone their way and were never heard of again.

Often referred to as the Trinity on most denominations, God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost have different functions while remaining one in purpose. While some are claiming that these three divine beings are all substances of but one God, one particular passage in the Bible disproves such claim, seeing that they have appeared all at the same time in order to fulfill their purpose. During the baptism of Jesus Christ in the River Jordan by his cousin, John the Baptist, it has been written that after Jesus was baptized, being immersed in and out of the water, a voice from heaven was heard saying, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him”. After hearing the voice, the Holy Ghost appeared in the form of a dove, signifying the divinity of the said event. Though they have been seen but once, the existence of these three beings mark the foundation of faith of all Christendom, all over the world.

This action video game was originally titled Metal Gear Solid: Rising in 2009, which was supposed to be the interquel between the Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and the Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. However, the 9^th game of the series was set in a plot four years after the event of the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. In this game, you will take the character of the cyborg ninja, Raiden, in his battles against the private military company Desperado Enterprises. This katana-wielding ally of Solid Snake was initially playable in his “white” form based in his appearance in the ‘Guns of the Patriots’ where he wears a white armor. However, at some point in the game he switched into a powerful “black” cyborg, which draws extra energy from “Zan-Datsu” kills, though you can alter his appearance unlike in the other series. This action-oriented game focuses more on sword fighting and sophisticated cutting defense system to beat the enemies. Though Raiden has his high-frequency blade as his main weapon, he can also wield other blades that he can obtain from defeating the game’s bosses.

Though it received negative reaction from its first launched in September 2010, this MMORPG was re-launched again with its original game setting, traditions and story but with new graphics engine, data structure and server. It was revamped with new interface, gameplay variations, redesigned maps, and additional story content. The game takes you to the fictional land of Erzoa where you can create and customize your avatars as you participate in the impending invasion of the Garden Empire. You can select your character from various pre-selected options such as gender, race, job type, and facial features. After which, you will now be taken into the game world where you can explore the landscapes, fight off monsters, interact with other players, and complete quests and missions. Unlike in the other series, you will now have the option to play third- or first-person view.

8. Grand Theft Auto IV

In this open-world action adventure video game, which is an offshoot to the Grand Theft Auto series, you will assume the character of Niko Bellic, a veteran from a war in Eastern Europe as he came to the United States in search of his own American Dream. Set in the fictional Liberty City, you will follow his adventures as he got entangled with gangs, corruption and crimes. GTA IV combined the elements of driving games, third-person shooters and an open world gameplay with features that allow for multiplayer modes. This game is more accessible than the other series as it provides the ability to pilot helicopters, steer boats, and climb obstacles aside from driving cars.

The sequel to the bestseller war Battlefield franchise, this online multiplayer game will take you to another realm as you fight battles in a modern-era battleground. Using modern realistic weapon systems and vehicles, this single-player first-person shooter game takes some strategy and RPG elements as you fight with the armies from China, the US Marines, and other fictional Middle East Coalition. The latest installment in the fourth generation series of “Need for Speed,” Most Wanted takes you to an extensive open world-packed racing with exhilarating actions as you choose your own path to be number one in the most wanted list. In this video racing game, you are allowed to drive anywhere, search for hidden gameplay, beat your rivals, challenge your friends or hang out with them, and drive the cops crazy. You can see most of the cars from the start, while some are hidden in different locations. In this game, you are Alex Mercer who wakes up in a morgue with no memory but also possesses extraordinary powers. A mysterious virus has break out in New York City, which turns everyone into savage mutants. The military has been called in to quarantine the city. Since you can shape shift and absorb other beings, you are now the most powerful life form in the entire city. This single-player game has 31 missions from simple clashes, escort missions, and colossal boss battles. This is like any open-world games where you will be required to do repetitive tasks. You will also have some side missions where you can earn some Evolve Points (EP) to upgrade your abilities and powers. This game also employs the ‘deceive or destroy’ gameplay where you can choose to blend in with the population and progress through the story, or become a killing machine as you move through New York City and leave destruction at your wake.

10. Harry Potter Series

Though these were not exactly bedtime stories as it were based on the novel by JK Rowling, the series has brought back the dying market of children’s fiction. Though the story does not have fairies, the magical story of Harry Potter takes you around his quests to conquer Lord Voldemort, who threatened not only the magical world but the non-magical world as well.  The highest-grossing film series of all time also catapulted the commercial success of the books and other related merchandise. Though its theme of death, corruption and prejudice may be different from other fairy tale movies, in the end they all share the moral truth of all the folklores and legends that the good always triumph in the end.

9. The Chronicles of Narnia

The movie adaptation of the same title by the CS Lewis follows the adventures of four Pevensie siblings as they ventured into a magical world with mythical characters in a battle that is the parallel world of their own. Though some critics would say that it is better to read the seven novels to allow your imagination to explore, the three movies including “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” “Prince Caspian” and “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader,” which were released in 2005, 2008, and 2010 respectively, were all commercial success with “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” as the 22^nd highest-grossing film series of all time. They also gained critical success for the daring of bringing the journey that spanned in generations to life, which feel both comfortingly familiar and exciting while communicating some moral truths.

8. Tangled (Rapunzel)

The film, which was originally titled as “Rapunzel,” took six years to finish and was considered as the most expensive animated film ever with an estimated budget of $260 million.  The 2^nd most expensive film of all time employed both computer-generated imagery (CGI) and the traditional animation with non-photorealistic rendering creating the impression of a painting. Slightly veering away from the German folklore published by the Brothers Grimm, it chronicled the adventures of Rapunzel and Flynn as they tricked Gothel into a three-day round trip travel in search of a special paint and in following their dreams.

7. Sleeping Beauty

Also known as the “Little Briar Rose” from the classics by the Brothers Grimm, this is the last animated film produced by Walt Disney that was released in theatres in 1959 until Disney’s death, following the release of “The Little Mermaid” in 1989. Before the animation production began, the film was shot in a live-action reference version using live actors posing as characters and models for the animators. Sleeping Beauty tells the story of the young princess Aurora who was cursed by an evil fairy godmother to fall asleep along with the inhabitants of the castle on her 16^th birthday, only to be awakened with the first love’s kiss.

6. Aladdin (and the Magic Lamp)

Who could ever forget Princess Jasmin and Aladdin singing “A Whole New World” while having a magic carpet ride with Abu, Aladdin’s kleptomaniac monkey? A part of the Disney Classics series called Disney Renaissance; it was based on the Arabian folklore “One Thousand and One Nights.” Since the moral message of the original tale was inappropriate, the filmmakers ‘put a spin on it’ by showing that though the fulfillment of wishes can be a good thing, it can also caused problems. It also tackled the theme of duplicity, where Jasmin and Aladdin pretended to be the persons they were not; and being ‘imprisoned’ with Jasmin and Aladdin trapped to their lifestyles, the Genie to its lamp, etc. The film became the highest grossing film of 1992 and has won numerous awards mostly for its soundtrack.

5. Little Mermaid

Though the animated musical fantasy film produced by Walt Disney in 1989 has been loosely based on the original fairy tale done by Hans Christian Andersen, it veered away from its tragic ending as ‘Ariel,’ the mermaid princess got  her prince and did not turn into a sea foam in the end. The last Disney film to use the traditional hand-painted cel method of animation, it boasts of good character designs and beautiful musical scoring, where some songs even become hugely popular. The film was credited for breathing a life back into the dying Disney animated feature films, which ceased production after some commercial failures in the 1960s. It also marked the Disney Renaissance following the success of “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” in 1988.

4. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

This film has many prequels and sequels and was the first animated film produced by Walt Disney. The story of the queen who was so obsessed with beauty, a distress princess, and her dwarf friends has been told in different characters’ point of view, which tells that evil will never triumph. This famous fairy tale is a must-read if not a must-watch for every child before they grow old and as a good lesson to not to accept gift or candies from strangers.

3. Peter Pan

For those who never want to grow up, this fairy tale is for you.   Feature in both animation and live action films, Peter Pan reminds grow up to never let go of childish adventures despite the miseries in life. It also brings back happy childhood memories where your backyard is the forest where you fought off your pirate friends, come home for dinner, and fight again another day with your made-up swords in your made-up costumes. Though the first animated “Peter Plan” film was produced by the Walt Disney in 1953, it was the 2003 movie released by Universal Pictures, which gained commercial success as the first live-action sound film based on the play.

This tale has garnered a number of adaptations not only in screen but in other media as well like television, prose and the stage. However, the most notable adaptation so far was the animated film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation in 1991, which became a commercial success, as it comes with beautiful musical scoring. The only animated film to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture, it tells that ‘beauty is not just skin deep’ and love can melt even a tyrannical beast’s heart with the help of singing teapots and other palace furniture. The movie also gained critical recognition for having the best writers, filmmakers, and musicians gathered together to produce a great family entertainment for the whole family in healthier Hollywood tradition.
