Large-scale practices of animal cruelties have been registered in Netherlands for the last decade. This country is known for its active involvement in the trading of sick horses as well as in the trade of other live animals such as cats, dogs, ducks, swans and geese. A Dutch artist named Tinkebell is also known for killing and brutally mutilating breeds of innocent animals in the country. Recently, several animal activists pleaded the Dutch government to enforce stricter implementation of its laws against animal cruelty.

9. Greece

Several extreme ports of animal abuse and cruelty are known in Greece. Not a day passes by in this country without reports of dogs and cats poisoned, wolves brutally killed and sea turtles taken out of the sea and slaughtered. In terms of their treatment to animals, people from outside Europe refer to the Greek people as Barbaric humans without culture because of their ill reputation when it comes to treating animals. Since the olden times, the people of this country have been in the practice of poisoning innocent animals, tying little kittens in plastic bags and disposing them, and keeping dogs in chains without feeding them. Recently, in the town of Caretta-Caretta, an endangered species of turtle was reportedly found tied and beheaded.

8. Romania

Just like the Greeks, the people of Romania are known for their barbarism when it comes to treating animals. Romanians are known for slaughtering animals in barbaric ways and then selling them for money. It is in this country that tourists see calves hanging on trees with their heads down, and their throats, cut. Every day in Romania, there are reports of animals found swimming in their own blood after being killed by the merciless locals of Romania who are in the practice of either slaughtering animals, skinning them alive, tying their necks till they cannot breathe, and beheading them. Seldom do these people observe veterinary rules.

7. Bulgaria

While some countries are known for the practice of tying the necks of or slaughtering animals straight away, Bulgaria is known for grave animal torture. A journalist who once delved into the animal abuse practices adopted by the people of Bulgaria found out that among their favourites is poisoning stray animals such as dogs and cats. Reports of masters who carried out absolute massacre of their own dogs are also present in this country. Aside from poisoning stray animals and massacring dogs, the people of Bulgaria are also known for decapitating stray cats and kittens and dogs and hanging them on trees. Mutilation of dogs is also a rampant practice here. It is only in this country where tourists can see beheaded cats and dogs hanging not just on trees but even bridges.

6. Venezuela

Most of the countries that are known for adopting extreme animal cruelty practices do their thing among helpless dogs, cats and calves. But Venezuela does not. Reports have it that the incidents of animal cruelty in this country are most common among the group of wild animals such as lions, beasts and wild geese. A Venezuelan lion named Casimiro recently died because of the wounds inflicted on him by unpitying zoo visitors. The open wounds left Casimiro depressed and neurotic for weeks until he died. The people of Venezuela are also known for the practice of chasing wild geese and for whipping, torturing then eventually slaughtering horses, especially those that have been lost in playoffs. Another report of a Venezuelan local who twisted the tail of a poor beast till it died became viral on the web.

5. Egypt

The practice of animal cruelty is still unabated in the land of Egypt. Different forms of cruelty to animals are manifest not just among the adults but even among the young, who generally have torturing animals as their pastimes. There was one incident when a six year old boy was caught holding a little kitten in his arms. All of a sudden, he dropped the kitten on the ground, held his one leg with a string and continued to toss the kitten back and forth to the floor until it died.  Egyptians are generally known as a callous group of people when it comes to treating animals. It is a good thing though that laws concerning animal welfare are being pushed in this country these days.

4. Spain

Spain offers breathtaking destinations for tourists. However, animals in this country are fondly called “animals in distress” because of the general kind of treatment that they get from people. Many families in Spain have their own slaughterhouses, so they continue to hunt down animals in the forest so they may have something to eat. But there is more to their heartless practices than just hunting down animals in forests and killing them. Several Spanish people have been reported because of their senseless killings of cats, dogs and pigs, and even calves. There was once a time when a teenager was seen trying to drown several kittens in a large basin until they died, or cutting the heads of pigs while they’re still conscious.

3. China

China has long been known for its lack of care for animals. Several offenses made against animals have been recorded since 2006, so a good number of activists are now pushing for laws that will safeguard the welfare of these animals. Among the animal abuse practices adopted in China is the skinning of foxes and other furry animals while they are still alive. Since China is a generally cool country, wearing of cardigans or coats has been common among its people. The inverted practice is not just common among foxes but fishes as well. The Chinese people are known for catching fishes in the sea and removing their unnecessary internal organs while they are still alive. Aside from those, several videos of Chinese nationals torturing birds and other stray animals are also viral in the web.

2. Australia

Slaughterhouses are common in Australia. People living in this country are known for killing large animals such as bulls and cattle by way of punching them, beating them and kicking them hard till they die. They carry out the worst form of cruelty to downer animals, which refer to those who are already too weak to stand up and defend themselves either because of their age or a sickness. There was once a reported instance of an Australian who actually poked a lame bull with an electrified prodder more than a hundred times till it died. As this was video recorded and went viral on the web, several viewers from around the world have seen how the lame bull died in so much pain because of his Australian tormentor.

1. Japan

Japan is one of the very few Asian countries that are known for being engaged in the practice of animal cruelty. It is believed that the different forms of abuse inflicted among animals in Japan are driven by capitalism. A fully developed country, Japan is known for treating animals not like living creatures but things that can be dumped anytime. Each year, Japanese nationals reportedly kill about 300,000 domestic cats and dogs in a brutal fashion, such as suffocating them, poisoning them or inflicting physical torture on them. 10. Tookoonooka Crater

The Tookoonooka crater can no longer be seen these days because the crevice created by the impact has been concealed in the ground during the Cretaceous period, particularly at a time when the Cadna-owie Formation was under way. This was over 123 to 133 million years ago, but the crater had been discovered due to data collected during a petroleum expedition back in 1989. The discovery of shocked quartz being found on the drill’s core. The crater is over 66km in diameter, and is now situated in South West Queensland in Australia.

9. Morokweng Crater

Located close to the borders of Botswana in South Africa, the Morokweng crater, despite that it can no longer be found physically as it is buried underneath the Kalahari Desert, is quite huge being 70km in diameter. It is named as such, as it is found nearest to the town of Morokweng. It was recently found in 1994 and is noted to be over 145 million years of age, specifically timed during the Jurassic-Cretaceous transition period. However, thanks to magnetic and gravimetric surveys conducted near the area of impact, along with the discovery of original asteroid being 770m deep, the existence of the said crater was verified, where its fragments have also been preserved and displayed inside the London Science Museum.

8. Puchezh-Katunki Crater

Even by just basing the location of the Puchezh-Katunki crater by name, it can be easily identified that the 80km crater is found in Russia. Specifically discovered in the Volga Federal District, the Puchezh-Katunki crater is known to make impact in the Earth’s surface during the Phanerozoic period. Due to the period of collision made, it is the only of its kind that was never responsible for putting any form of specie in extinction. In fact, when it is seen today, it can be quite difficult to trace but can be detected as vegetation planted within its craters are different, compared to those outside the crater.

7. Chesapeake Bay Crater

The Chesapeake Bay crater is actually quite famous for its location of impact, not only because it is the biggest impact crater found in the US being 85km in diameter, but more importantly, it is one of the most reserved as it can be found underwater. Its effect in the Chesapeake Bay is actually apparent, as the impact also shaped the presence of land being found nearby. Due to its location, the said crater is also one of the best studied as specifics such as depth, total diameter, even impact diameter, along with peak rings, and impact depth have all been researched in detail. Scientists were able to compare the crater being two times larger than Rhode Island and almost as deep as the Grand Canyon. Even the geophysical changes during the impact about 35 million years were analyzed in accuracy, saying that the found statistics in the meteor’s impact may have caused a tsunami that affected modern day geological features.

6. Manicouagan Crater

If there is one crater that is noted to be the most visible today, it would be none other than the impact crater found in the regions of Quebec, Canada. Located in the Manicouagan Regional County Municipality, the visible crater, surprisingly, is one of the oldest impacts that ever occurred in prehistoric times, even over 215 million years of age. The meteor that fell is described to be over 5km in diameter, which is why it has been concluded by most researchers that the Manicouagan crater could also be responsible for the extinction of certain creatures by the end of the Carnian period. The impact is over 100km in diameter.

5. Popigai Crater

Although both the Manicouagan and Popigai craters are 100km in diameter, the time of impact should be one factor that makes the difference, especially with the fact that crater size may have became smaller due to sedimentation and time-variable physical changes that may affect the crater in general. The Manicougan is about 215 million years, while the latter is only 35 million. Despite that the meteor fell on land, the Popigai crater found in Siberia can still be seen in satellite, as the discoloration of the ground is still apparent. This was one of the reasons why UNESCO has named the impact site as a Geopark. In the same spot also lies a diamond mine that’s being operated and protected by Stalin, which actually fascinated scientists as the abundance of diamond is due to the transformation of graphite due to the pressure created by the impact of the probable chondrite asteroid.

4. Woodleigh Crater

Discovered by four scientists working at the Geological Survey of Western Australia and the Australian National University in 15 April 2000, the Woodleigh crater, located in Western Australia, is one of the most recent crater impact finds, as announced by Arthur J. Mory, the group’s leader. While there may be question whether the 120km diameter size of the crater is true, as the asteroid that caused such damage to the Earth’s surface could be about 6km in diameter, the power of impact leads to other conclusive claims where the atmospheric pressure made by the impact is over 100,000 times greater.

3. Chicxulub Crater

There is also one impact that occurred in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, particularly set in the town near Chicxulub over 66 million years ago in the Cretaceous Period. It is also known as Espelandsfossen, which is situated in the Espeland Valley, where its name was derived. It’s exactly located in Granvin in Hardanger Fjord, Norway. The source of its water comes from Opo River. Its height is equivalent to 7,031 meters.

9. Ølmäa Waterfalls (2,362 feet)

It is considered the tallest waterfall in Europe, which can be seen in More Og Romosdal Province in Norway. It’s considered a horsetail type due to the concentration of the water that gradually expands as it reaches the bottom. Although it has no name at all, but because of the common conversations of people in the place, wherein it’s being referred to as Ølmäa, it was famed with the term anyway. It is a secret paradise in the midst of the province of Amazon in Peru when Stefan Ziemendorff discovered this place. Its height is just estimation, and the 2,532 feet height was not an exact measurement. There was a hearsay that it’s hidden in order to avoid sudden curse from the legendary tale of a mermaid who has the power to utter curses. This waterfall is actually divided into two segments, which comprises of the top, being 250 meters, and the lower part, being 540 meters. Also known as the Mongefossen to the locals of Norway, Monge Falls stands at a height of 2,536 feet, or 443 meters. It is classified as a horsetail kind of falls as the water, falls from the top on a narrow path and then expands as it down to the bottom. Due to its height, the said tall waterfall is also used for generating electricity, which explains why the flow path from Mongefossen is usually dry during summer. Nevertheless, if the said water system has been freed to flow on its own, it could have been an interesting tourist attraction whether it may invite waterfall watchers or maybe sport fishers.

Despite that the Waihilau Falls in  Hawaii is a wonderful sight to see, as the trailing water perfectly flows through a steep cliff that’s covered in lush and green vegetation, it may be a bit of a challenge for tourists to see as the path is not that accessible. Ironically, this is also the reason why the said water system is serene and virgin in the most literal sense, not being too exposed to the foreign eye. Aside from being pristine and pure, Waihilau Falls, which has a height of over 2,600 feet, is one of the many places created in the lava flow of historic volcanoes, particularly the Kohala Volcano, which is actually extinct today. Once you make it over the treacherous path, you will also see other three waterfalls as consolation to your hard work and patience: Wai’ilikahi Falls, Kakaauki Falls, and Lahomene Falls.

You might not be able to find this falls very well in Norway not unless you’d be able to know its native name, which is Ramnefjellfossen. Its height of 2,625 feet had been in question for so many years because of its 4 distinct leaps, which however does not store flowing water at lower depth, making it still almost free flowing, thus being interconnected with each other. Some have even measured its  height to only 1,968 feet, but Guinness Book of World Records have tallied the length of the waterfall based on how it was cited earlier, through connectivity. Although it is also known as Utigørdsfossen by many as its name was mentioned even many years ago, Ramnefjellfossen is still the waterfall’s official name as it was more popular over 30 to 40 years ago.

2. Tugela Waterfalls (3,110 feet)

Known as the second tallest waterfall in the world, Tugela Falls, or also known as Thukela Falls based on the phonetic spelling of the word meaning “sudden” or “startling”, is over 3,110 feet in height. It is divided into five drops that vary in height, depending on the water source that flows through it. The name is also perfect as the water in Tugela does not flow steadily all year long, especially during the summer season, when the falls is commonly dry. This is all due to the flat surface located on Mont Aux where flow from different directions still prove scarce for the very high waterfall. However, when the rainy season comes in and everything goes through Tugela, the sight is very pleasing to behold as you could see the full 3,110 feet being filled with water all throughout.

1. Angel Waterfalls (3,287 feet)

If you are using Angel Waterfalls as your reference point for the highest in the world, then you should direct your sights in Venezuela as it is the only one in the planet that spans to as high as 3,287 feet. When using the Pemon Indian tongue, Angel Falls is more known as Kerepakupai Merú and Parekupa Vena. This tall waterfall can be found in the Canaima National Park, making it very accessible to tourists and locals who would like to see the falls that got the title of being the tallest in the world. Due to its height, especially from the last catch point going down to the baseline, all that can be felt are little drops or mists of water. The falls was actually named after James Angel, whose plane actually crashed on the topmost section of the mountains while surveying the area.

10. Red-backed Poison Frog

Its binomial name is Ranitomeya reticulate that has a lifespan of 8 to 12 years. Its habitation is tropical rainforest and it is part of the Dentrobatidae family under the order of Anura. It is now an endemic specie in Peru and Ecuador where it’s originated. You could recognize it’s poisonous because of its intense color and pattern. Its skin secretes pumilotoxin C that causes muscle contraction in the human skeletal muscle and in the delicate parts of the heart, which might result to partial paralysis, and worse… death.

9. Strawberry Poison Dart Frog

It measures about an inch long that has thin limbs and a plump body. It’s very bright body color signifies that it’s really indeed venomous. It’s normally seen in Puerto Rico, and other parts of Central America. They inhabit in premontane forest and humid lowlands. You can see about 400 of them during wet months in Puerto Rico. It is also known as Blue Jeans Frog or Dendrobates Pumilio while it carries a Spanish name of Ranita Roja. The toxin that it releases belongs to the Phyllobates Terribilis group that can kill ten adult humans or equivalent to 20 mice. Its lifespan is about 5 to 6 years.

8. Blue Poison Dart Frog

It’s called dendrobates tinctorius, which was discovered by scientists in 1968. It is easily recognized because of its blue color with black spots and darker limbs and belly. It releases poison from their skin that is really lethal to its predators. You can see them near streams, boulders, leaf  litter, and other debris areas. It measures about 2 inches long and it originates in Brazil.

7. Lovely Poison Frog

It may carry the name a lovely poison frog, but you might call it bewitched once you are contracted by its toxin, which is not really that dangerous compared to other species under the Phyllobates genus. Nevertheless, it’s still lethal. It is also known as Phyllobates lugubris that belongs to the family of Dendrobatidae found in Panama, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica. Their habitations are lowland moist, tropical, or subtropical forests, plantations, and rivers. It is nearing extinction in Honduras. 10. Flounder

No, this is not the same kind of flounder that you could think from Disney’s the Little Mermaid since the fish being talked about belongs to the flatfish group. Based from its name, you can see this species of fish very close to the ground as it cannot swim very high due to the size of its fins being too small compared to its body. Its color is usually grainy brown and white that all it needs is to shake itself down the sandy surface and you end up only seeing its eyes.

9. Grasshopper

They are very easy to catch, whether it may be caught by birds or by people. Due to their weakness of limited movement where they are only able to jump from one area to another, being susceptible of being eaten.
