10. Andorra

This country has a total population of 85,293 as estimation for its 2013 report. Its official language is Catalan, but other spoken languages are Castilian, French, and Portuguese. Roman Catholic is the most dominant religion in this country while majority of the population comes from the Spanish group followed by 33% Andorran, 11% Portuguese, 7% French, and 6% belongs to other nationalities. They are under the parliamentary democracy, and they don’t have military forces or branches. Although there is a Police Service in Andorra which was formed in 2011, but their defense is a sole responsibility of Spain and France as part of the treaty that they have signed with them.

It is also known as a Republic of Palau that is situated in the Western Pacific Ocean, which is technically part of Micronesia. Its capital is Melekeok, and their official languages are Palauan and English. They were under the UN Trust Territory of the Pacific for three decades before they enjoyed total independence in 1978, but their liberty was fully acknowledged in 1994 when they entered the Compact Free Association. They don’t have military forces, but they have established the Palau National Police in 2009 since the defense assistance is being provided by the US through the agreement that they signed on October 1, 1994.

It is situated in the central tropical Pacific Ocean, and its capital is South Tarawa. It’s government type is parliamentary republic and its last population count in 2011 has reached to 101,093. The languages spoken in this country are Kiribati and English. According to history, it was first known as Gilbert Islands in 1892 under the British protectorate. Hence, when UK approved their self-rule in 1971, its total independence followed in 1979, and their name was changed to Kiribati.  There was no military forces formed since it is being prevented by the constitution that they have established, but they have a police force since 2011.

It is officially known as Vatican City State or Stato della Citta del Vaticano that has 836 population recorded in 2012. The government type that they follow is under the Ecclesiastical Ruling or Absolute Monarchy, Elective and Theocracy since this is the center of Roman Catholicism where the higher authority of religion resides, which is known as the Pope. Through the Lateran Treaties made in 1929, Vatican City became an independent state. There are limited securities being sent in this country since the primary defense is vested in Italy as part of the treaty signed in 1929.

6. Grenada

Its population is about 90,739 and Saint George is its capital city. It is one of the smallest countries in the Western Hemisphere that carries and uses English as its official language. It is popularly known as a “Spice Island” because of its production of cloves, cinnamon, ginger, and other spices. It was discovered by Christopher Columbus during his trail, and it’s being inhabited then by the Carib Indians. Its full independence started when Britain granted autonomy to them for its internal affairs in 1967, but they have enjoyed it at the beginning of 1974. It does not maintain military forces, but they only have a Royal Grenade Police Force since 2010, which also includes the Coast Guard.

5. Costa Rica

In Spanish, it is known as Republica de Costa Rica or Republic in Costa Rica in English, which is situated in Central America. Its population has reached over 4 million while maintaining the Democtratic Republic Government. For several centuries, they were known as part of the Spanish colony since 16^th century. Its first declaration of independence from Spain happened in 1821, and in 1838, their full sovereignty and freedom has been achieved after the disintegration of Federation which they were belong to during that time. They dissolved military forces in 1949, and it became one of the most progressive countries, especially in economic development, largely covering the agricultural sector, tourism, and technology industries.

4. Liechtenstein

This is popularly known as Landlocked Alpine Country found in Central Europe carrying the capital of Vaduz. Its official language is German while maintaining Unitary State, Constitutional Monarchy, and Parliamentary System. It was once occupied by Russian and French troops, but declared as a sovereign state in 1815 under the Germanic Confederation. Nonetheless, when it was dissolved 1866, its full independence was attained. It became associated in Austria when World War 1 ceased, but made a monetary merger with Switzerland because of the devastating economic downfall. They don’t have military forces being maintained, and they are only relying to close-neighbor countries after they abolished it in 1868 because of the costly evaluation of it in country’s overall expenditures. Hence, they have a SWAT and Police team that carries out internal duties.

3. Marshall Islands

It is located in Northern Pacific Ocean with a total population of 54,816 and Majuro as its capital city. It was under the US administration for almost four decades before achieving total freedom and sovereignty in 1986 because of the Compact of Free Association. They don’t have any organized military forces except for the Marshall Islands Police, which was formed in 2012 because the United States is responsible in providing security to their country under the Compact of Free Association.

2. Tuvalu

Funafuti is the capital of Tuvalu while carrying a 9,847 population, which was recorded in 2011. Its official languages are Tuvalun and English, while maintaining a Parliamentary system, constitutional monarchy, non-partisan democracy, and Representative democracy. Due to ethnic conflicts that transpired under the British Colony, separation of Gilbert from Ellice Islands took place, which resulted to the colonialism of Tuvalu from the British Colony in 1978. They only have the Tuvalu Police Force, but since its independence, it did not maintain or form any military force.

It is one of the four states of Micronesia that maintains independent sovereign island status and its capital is Palikir. English is their official language and its population has reached 111,542 based on the last count recorded in 2011. Like some countries on this list, it also joined the Compact of Free Association in 1986, which was renewed in 2004. It has four administrative divisions such as Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei, and Yap. It has no military forces after its declaration of independence. They have a Maritime Surveillance Unit that takes care of the internal security, but United States is solely responsible of their defense because of the Compact of Free Association that Federated States of Micronesia signed.

A United States Army Soldier, he became a recipient of the military’s decoration, the Medal of Honor, for his actions during World War II. He was an acting squad leader and while directing his men on a newly-won position on Hill B, a group of Japanese soldiers threw a grenade in the center of their group. Pushing his comrades aside, he jammed the grenade to the earth with his rifle, and threw himself over it to protect his comrades.

A hero of the Halifax tragedy, he went to work on December 6, 1917 as a Railway Dispatcher for Halifax’s North End station As he relieved the night dispatcher at the telegraph, there was a collision and French munitions ship Mont-Blanc had caught fire and about to explode. Worried about the incoming Passenger Train No. 10 and its occupants; he delivered his famous telegraph message: “Hold up the train. Ammunition ship afire in harbor making for Pier 6 and will explode. Guess this will be my last message. Good-bye boys.”

8. Ensign Andrew L. Foreman

During the Battle of Tassafaronga on November 30, 1942 between the United States Navy and the Imperial Japanese Navy warships during the Guadalcanal campaign, he remained at his station to help save his ship until asphyxiated by gas generated by the explosion. Posthumously awarded the Navy Cross for his heroic self-sacrifice, the USS Foreman (DE-633), a Buckley-class destroyer escort of the US Navy was named after him.

7. Francois Charles Hugues Laurent Poqueville

A French diplomat, explorer, writer and historian; he became a prominent architect of the Philhellenism movement throughout Europe. He also contributed greatly to the liberation of the Greeks and the rebirth of the Greek nation during the Greek War of Independence in 1821 by giving shelter in the French consulate to a number of refugees while the Turkish repression was raging at the peril of his own life. 6. Nine Brothers Kherkheulidtze

 When Shah Abbas I of Persia marched his largest army towards Georgia’s eastern provinces of Kartli and Kakheti; the safety of the motherland was placed on the 20,000 Georgian Army with the Nine Brothers Kherkheulidtze bearing the Georgian flag, as they fought with courage and fortitude. After the nine banner-bearing brothers were killed, it fell to their youngest brother and to their sister who was also killed. However, it was raised up again by their mother as a symbol of Georgian invincibility, though she was also killed. The nine brothers and their mother and sister were canonized by the Georgian Orthodox Church along with thousands martyrs of the Battle of Marabda.

5. Gomburza

This was the acronym denoting the surnames of the Filipino priests Mariano Gomez, Jose Apolonio Burgos and Jacinto Zamora who were executed on February 17, 1872 by the Spanish colonial authorities on charges of subversion arising from the 1872 Cavite Mutiny. This has a profound effect on the Filipinos and what triggered the revolution that ended the 300-plus years of Spanish colonial rule in the country. The country’s national hero, Jose Rizal, dedicated his novel ‘El Filibusterismo’ to their memory.

4. Mormon Handcart Pioneers

The migration of the members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the LDS Church, from 1856 to 1860 was fraught with hardships and sufferings as they traveled using handcarts to travel their belonging in all kinds of weather from Iowa and Nebraska to Utah. Lacking funds for full-ox teams, the 3,000 pioneers from Wales, England, Scandinavia, and Scotland went on a trek that resulted in disaster for two companies that were caught in heavy snow and extreme temperature in Wyoming, where 210 out of the 980 pioneers in the two companies died along the way. Their contributions were honored during the Pioneer Day.

A British teacher in Japan, he was not even supposed to be in school when the great tsunami hit Japan on March 11. The 9/11 tragedy has not only led to the death of the victims of the Twin Towers, but also for a great number of casualties coming from the New York police force, fire fighters and volunteers. This event has been one of those unfortunate events where the rescuers need to be rescued themselves. Notable among them were John McLoughlin and William Jimero, the last two men out of the rubble of the World Trade Center who survived the ordeal of being buried alive for 13 hours.

A recipient of numerous honors including the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize, Anjeze Gonxhe Bojaxhiu might have been born an Albanian on August 26, 1910, but she considered India her home and the poorest of the poor her family. Leaving her home at 18 to join the convent, where she never saw her mother and sister again; she began her missionary work in 1948 by leaving the comforts of the convent and founded the Missionaries of Charity to care for the sick, especially those with HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and leprosy; and run orphanages and schools for poor children.

10. Tookoonooka Crater

The Tookoonooka crater can no longer be seen these days because the crevice created by the impact has been concealed in the ground during the Cretaceous period, particularly at a time when the Cadna-owie Formation was under way. This was over 123 to 133 million years ago, but the crater had been discovered due to data collected during a petroleum expedition back in 1989. The discovery of shocked quartz being found on the drill’s core. The crater is over 66km in diameter, and is now situated in South West Queensland in Australia.

9. Morokweng Crater

Located close to the borders of Botswana in South Africa, the Morokweng crater, despite that it can no longer be found physically as it is buried underneath the Kalahari Desert, is quite huge being 70km in diameter. It is named as such, as it is found nearest to the town of Morokweng. It was recently found in 1994 and is noted to be over 145 million years of age, specifically timed during the Jurassic-Cretaceous transition period. However, thanks to magnetic and gravimetric surveys conducted near the area of impact, along with the discovery of original asteroid being 770m deep, the existence of the said crater was verified, where its fragments have also been preserved and displayed inside the London Science Museum.

8. Puchezh-Katunki Crater

Even by just basing the location of the Puchezh-Katunki crater by name, it can be easily identified that the 80km crater is found in Russia. Specifically discovered in the Volga Federal District, the Puchezh-Katunki crater is known to make impact in the Earth’s surface during the Phanerozoic period. Due to the period of collision made, it is the only of its kind that was never responsible for putting any form of specie in extinction. In fact, when it is seen today, it can be quite difficult to trace but can be detected as vegetation planted within its craters are different, compared to those outside the crater.

7. Chesapeake Bay Crater

The Chesapeake Bay crater is actually quite famous for its location of impact, not only because it is the biggest impact crater found in the US being 85km in diameter, but more importantly, it is one of the most reserved as it can be found underwater. Its effect in the Chesapeake Bay is actually apparent, as the impact also shaped the presence of land being found nearby. Due to its location, the said crater is also one of the best studied as specifics such as depth, total diameter, even impact diameter, along with peak rings, and impact depth have all been researched in detail. Scientists were able to compare the crater being two times larger than Rhode Island and almost as deep as the Grand Canyon. Even the geophysical changes during the impact about 35 million years were analyzed in accuracy, saying that the found statistics in the meteor’s impact may have caused a tsunami that affected modern day geological features.

6. Manicouagan Crater

If there is one crater that is noted to be the most visible today, it would be none other than the impact crater found in the regions of Quebec, Canada. Located in the Manicouagan Regional County Municipality, the visible crater, surprisingly, is one of the oldest impacts that ever occurred in prehistoric times, even over 215 million years of age. The meteor that fell is described to be over 5km in diameter, which is why it has been concluded by most researchers that the Manicouagan crater could also be responsible for the extinction of certain creatures by the end of the Carnian period. The impact is over 100km in diameter.

5. Popigai Crater

Although both the Manicouagan and Popigai craters are 100km in diameter, the time of impact should be one factor that makes the difference, especially with the fact that crater size may have became smaller due to sedimentation and time-variable physical changes that may affect the crater in general. The Manicougan is about 215 million years, while the latter is only 35 million. Despite that the meteor fell on land, the Popigai crater found in Siberia can still be seen in satellite, as the discoloration of the ground is still apparent. This was one of the reasons why UNESCO has named the impact site as a Geopark. In the same spot also lies a diamond mine that’s being operated and protected by Stalin, which actually fascinated scientists as the abundance of diamond is due to the transformation of graphite due to the pressure created by the impact of the probable chondrite asteroid.

4. Woodleigh Crater

Discovered by four scientists working at the Geological Survey of Western Australia and the Australian National University in 15 April 2000, the Woodleigh crater, located in Western Australia, is one of the most recent crater impact finds, as announced by Arthur J. Mory, the group’s leader. While there may be question whether the 120km diameter size of the crater is true, as the asteroid that caused such damage to the Earth’s surface could be about 6km in diameter, the power of impact leads to other conclusive claims where the atmospheric pressure made by the impact is over 100,000 times greater.

3. Chicxulub Crater

There is also one impact that occurred in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, particularly set in the town near Chicxulub over 66 million years ago in the Cretaceous Period. It is also known as Espelandsfossen, which is situated in the Espeland Valley, where its name was derived. It’s exactly located in Granvin in Hardanger Fjord, Norway. The source of its water comes from Opo River. Its height is equivalent to 7,031 meters.

9. Ølmäa Waterfalls (2,362 feet)

It is considered the tallest waterfall in Europe, which can be seen in More Og Romosdal Province in Norway. It’s considered a horsetail type due to the concentration of the water that gradually expands as it reaches the bottom. Although it has no name at all, but because of the common conversations of people in the place, wherein it’s being referred to as Ølmäa, it was famed with the term anyway. Its height is just estimation, and the 2,532 feet height was not an exact measurement. Also known as the Mongefossen to the locals of Norway, Monge Falls stands at a height of 2,536 feet, or 443 meters. It is classified as a horsetail kind of falls as the water, falls from the top on a narrow path and then expands as it down to the bottom. Due to its height, the said tall waterfall is also used for generating electricity, which explains why the flow path from Mongefossen is usually dry during summer. Nevertheless, if the said water system has been freed to flow on its own, it could have been an interesting tourist attraction whether it may invite waterfall watchers or maybe sport fishers.

Despite that the Waihilau Falls in  Hawaii is a wonderful sight to see, as the trailing water perfectly flows through a steep cliff that’s covered in lush and green vegetation, it may be a bit of a challenge for tourists to see as the path is not that accessible. Ironically, this is also the reason why the said water system is serene and virgin in the most literal sense, not being too exposed to the foreign eye. Aside from being pristine and pure, Waihilau Falls, which has a height of over 2,600 feet, is one of the many places created in the lava flow of historic volcanoes, particularly the Kohala Volcano, which is actually extinct today. You might not be able to find this falls very well in Norway not unless you’d be able to know its native name, which is Ramnefjellfossen. Its height of 2,625 feet had been in question for so many years because of its 4 distinct leaps, which however does not store flowing water at lower depth, making it still almost free flowing, thus being interconnected with each other. Some have even measured its  height to only 1,968 feet, but Guinness Book of World Records have tallied the length of the waterfall based on how it was cited earlier, through connectivity. Although it is also known as Utigørdsfossen by many as its name was mentioned even many years ago, Ramnefjellfossen is still the waterfall’s official name as it was more popular over 30 to 40 years ago.

2. Tugela Waterfalls (3,110 feet)

Known as the second tallest waterfall in the world, Tugela Falls, or also known as Thukela Falls based on the phonetic spelling of the word meaning “sudden” or “startling”, is over 3,110 feet in height. It is divided into five drops that vary in height, depending on the water source that flows through it. The name is also perfect as the water in Tugela does not flow steadily all year long, especially during the summer season, when the falls is commonly dry. This is all due to the flat surface located on Mont Aux where flow from different directions still prove scarce for the very high waterfall. However, when the rainy season comes in and everything goes through Tugela, the sight is very pleasing to behold as you could see the full 3,110 feet being filled with water all throughout.

If you are using Angel Waterfalls as your reference point for the highest in the world, then you should direct your sights in Venezuela as it is the only one in the planet that spans to as high as 3,287 feet. When using the Pemon Indian tongue, Angel Falls is more known as Kerepakupai Merú and Parekupa Vena. This tall waterfall can be found in the Canaima National Park, making it very accessible to tourists and locals who would like to see the falls that got the title of being the tallest in the world. Due to its height, especially from the last catch point going down to the baseline, all that can be felt are little drops or mists of water. The falls was actually named after James Angel, whose plane actually crashed on the topmost section of the mountains while surveying the area.

10. Leap Year folklore and traditions.

Aside from tradition in Ireland, it is considered to be unlucky for someone to be born on a leap day in Scotland just as everybody else is afraid of Friday the 13^th. Meanwhile in Greece, it is unlucky for couples to get married on a leap year, especially on February 29; which incidentally is St. Oswald’s Day in honor of the archbishop of York who died on February 29, 992. This is, however, commemorated on February 28 during the common years. For the superstitious Chinese, they believe that more bad luck happens during the leap month in the lunar calendar. They also believed that children born on this day are hard-headed and that they are never good in business or in getting married.

9. Leap year in Guinness.

Ever since leap year was first introduced with the transition from the Roman calendar to the Julian Calendar 2000 years ago, it has also been subjected to the “world record of leap-day babies” as recorded by the Guinness Book of Records. Leaplings are not only invited to join the “Honor Society of Leap Day Babies,” but there are world record holders for those families producing three succeeding generations born on February 29 – the Keogh family, and of the number of children born on February 29 from the same family as well. The lists of these families include Peter Anthony who was in 1940 in Ireland; his son Peter Eric, who was born in the UK in 1964; and his daughter Bethany, born in 1996. The Henriksen from Andenes, Norway holds the official record for the most number of children born of February 29, as Mrs. Karin Henriksen gave birth to her daughter Heidi in 1960, and her sons Olav and Leif Martin in 1964 and 1968 in that order.

8. There was an actual February 30.

Though it was just temporary, February 30 was an actual date used at one point in Sweden and the Soviet Union. In Sweden, February 30, 1712 resulted from an error in their calendar conversion during the 18^th century; while it was an attempt to cut the seven-day weeks into five-day weeks in the case of the Soviet Union from 1930 to 1931. There was also the claim of the 13^th century scholar Johannes de Sacrobosco that February had 30 days in the Julian calendar in the leap years between 45 BCE and 8 BCE. This was to give the month of August to have the same length as July. However, historic evidences have refuted this claim as Sacrobosco was also known to be a critic of the Julian calendar.

Leap year came to be due to the ancient Egyptians, who first figured out that the solar year and the calendar they were using did not match up. Nowadays, February 29 is celebrated as the “Rare Disease Day” to obtain funding for diseases that have no known cure. US presidential elections and the Summer Olympics were also held every four years.

Astrologers believe that leaplings possess unusual talents and abilities due to their extraordinary birthday. While they can choose to celebrate on February 28 or March 1 on common years, these Pisces-born leaplings are considered as optimistic, friendly and good-natured. There is only one chance for every 1,461 leap year births or 0.0006 percent chance, which makes up the 4 million people today who were born on February 29.  A year divisible by 100 cannot be a leap year unless it can be divided by 400, which make the year 2000 a leap year but the year 1900 was not. There is also the “leap second” or a one-second adjustment that is sometimes applied to the Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) to keep the day closer to the mean solar time. The latest adjustment on “leap second” was made on June 30, 2012 at 23:59:60 UTC.

4. There is a leap year capital of the world.

Anthony, Texas, a town situated near the border of New Mexico, is the self-proclaimed “leap year capital of the world.” It started in 1988 when dames Mary Ann Brown and Birdie Lewis, who were both born in a leap year, came up with an idea to have a leap year festival not only to give the town some recognition but to raise funds for the community as well. The Chamber of Commerce agreed with this; and today, February 29 is celebrated with parades, festivals, birthday dinners, parties, and hot air balloon rides where leaplings celebrate their birthdays in style. Being born on a leap year can really have its perks!

3. Local laws can decide when ‘leaplings’ celebrate their birthdays.

The Civil Code of China declared that leaplings or those who are born on February 29 take February 28 as their legal birthday; a law that has been carried out since October 29, 1929. Hong Kong has a similar law implemented since the 1990, where the legal birthday of a leapling is March 1 in common years. However, only a few of them will get to celebrate their Golden Birthday since they would be 116 years old before they turned 29.

This tradition goes back in 5^th century Ireland when St. Bridget complained to St. Patrick about the fact that the women have to wait for men to propose to them, which she thought was unfair. St. Patrick gave in by setting February 29 as the day that allows women to have the right to ask for a man’s hand in marriage. The tradition lived on in Scotland until 1288 when Queen Margaret declared that those who will refuse will be fined with a silk dress, a kiss, or a pair of gloves if they rejected the ladies. This tradition was also practiced in Denmark and Finland, while it is considered as bad luck to get married in a leap year in Germany. In modern day America, this is practiced during the “Sadie Hawkins Day” in honor of the homeliest girls where they can pursue the most eligible bachelors in town. This stemmed from the comic strip Li’l Abner created by Al Capp.

1. The origin of the term Leap Year.

In the Gregorian calendar, a fixed date normally advances one day of the week year after year. However, during the leap year, the days of the week will advance in two days from March onwards due to the extra day inserted at the end of February, making one day “leap over” in the week. For instance, if your birthday in 2004 fell on a Saturday, in 2005 it was Sunday, Monday in 2006, and became Tuesday in 2007. However in 2008, which was a leap year, your birthday fell on a Thursday, which made it “leap over” Wednesday; thus the name.

10. February 1717, New England

What occurred in February 1717 was so terrible that the blizzard encountered that time was called the “Great Snow” because of the huge amounts of snow that have been dropped down into the states of Pennsylvania and even Massachusetts. The said locations were hit hardest with 9 feet of snow and drifts that are as high as 25 feet, burying most of the single-storey houses. Although there were only seven deaths, the storm was so dense that it destroyed buildings and roads have been closed for days.

8. March 1971, Canada

Canadians may be used to encountering snowstorms of different strengths and depths, but back in March 1971, there came a blizzard that dumped so much snow in the regions of Quebec and Ontario. Even though the storm dumped 45.7 centimeters of snow with 61 centimeters in some regions, which is ordinary in most cases, the heavy blowing, including the zero visibility and sharp drop of temperature took over 20 people. But what’s even worse for the Canadians during this time is that a hockey game has been cancelled, which is a very rare situation in all of Canadian history.

7. January 1977, New York

This particular snowstorm definitely was one of the most torturing and the most challenging as it did not only happen one time, or on a few occasions, just like what other blizzards have been in other years. Everything began in November 1976 with storms that consistently amass more than 30 inches of snow, which got worse on the months of December and January. The winds are just as fierce as compared with the rest, being 69 to about 75mph, but what made the 29 deaths disturbing is the fact that for over 3 months, residents and drivers encountered piercing chills that went to as low as 26, even over 50 to 60 degrees below zero.

6. January 1967, Midwestern United States

The northeasterners may have been used to the many blizzards and snowstorms that have raged havoc within the states located therein, the story is different when speaking about the midwesterners. Particularly in the cities of Chicago in Illinois, Gary in Indiana, and Kalamazoo in Michigan, there have been over 76 people dead due to the heavy blizzards and snowstorms that have affected lives and homes. All of these happened even though the temperatures are at a record high during winter, where even tornado breakouts were reported before the storm happened.

5. January 2008, China

Timing was one of the worst elements that made a China blizzard turn out fatal and very destructive. Because everyone was so busy at going home to relatives, friends, and family members, 178 million of the travelers have been surprised with what occurred while they were on various modes of transportation. The wind was so harsh that it destroyed 223,000 homes and about 862,000 other properties have suffered damage. Over 129 lives have been claimed at what many thought would be the happiest welcome of the Chinese New Year.

4. February 1978, New England

Over 1 to 3 feet of snow had been blown down to the states of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and even in New York while the blizzard blew over at speeds of 161kph, which caused poor visibility and drifting issues. Although the amount of snow was not that heavy, what made this one of the worst in history is that it occurred during high tide, and it happened in the afternoon; at a time where kids are in school and employees are in their work places. Since many are on their way home, many have been stranded on the road, causing over deaths of 100 people.

3. November 1913, Ohio

The blizzard that took place in the lakes of Cleveland was known in history as “The Great Lakes Storm”. There have been 250 lives that were taken as forecasters did not have a clue that a 16-hour snowstorm would be ravaging the town, which destroyed over 19 ships due to its winds that reached 90mph. The said number of deaths has been covered by low visibility, sharp temperature decline, and whiteouts that easily killed people who did not have much clue of what they expected.

2. March 1888, Northeastern United States

The northeastern section of the US, which included the state of New York and Connecticut where caught with heavy rains, which later turned into very dense snow from Sunday night to Monday morning. The snowstorm was so heavy that it caused as much as 1.5 meters of snow in certain places and even snow drifts that is as high as 15 to 18 meters. What’s worse is that it took away the lives of over 400 people, aside from the 100 others that have been lost at sea.
