Last May 02, 2012, Forbes has made an updated list for the newest Midas List for 2012’s Top Tech Investors. Although there is a common denominator about them, which are all associated to some of the most famous social networking names such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, it can also be seen that they have already been setting the clockwork due to the funds that they are willing to use to lift other starting online markets to fame. Check out this top 10 tech investors in 2012 and see how they have placed their money in the right places.

10. Jeremy Levine

Jeremy Levine has been famous for the many Web 2.0 sites that have been the center of attention for most online customers, whether in the consumer market or social networking sphere. In fact, he owns successful web pages such as LinkedIn, Diapers.com, Pinterest, and Bessemer. He has even acquired and profited millions of dollars due to his roundup efforts that have convinced other investors to venture in the path he trudges in.

9. Kevin Efrusy

He has been known as the guy that tried to patch Facebook’s owner, Mark Zuckerberg, and Sean Parker to make ends meet and have profit escalate into a higher level. Despite that it did not work out between the two, he was able to rise to fame because of his affiliation with Groupon, especially at the time when it was opened for IPO. Other online investments that are associated to him are Mind Lab, Shoes4You, and Elo7.

8. Peter Thiel

Currently standing as one of Mark Zuckerberg’s online investment advisors, Peter Thiel is one of the guys that showed interest in the future possibilities seeing Facebook grow. Aside from having investments on companies and groups that give priority to human condition development such as Halcyon Molecular, Space X, and Spotify, he is also spending time in Stanford University as a teacher for “Startup” courses.

7. Paul Madera

When Meritech was founded in 1999, Paul Madera never imagined that it would be one of the strongest and most stable companies to create a force in Silicon Valley. While he currently utilizes his investments in Facebook, everything led to this moment because of his previously successful ventures such as Acopia, 2Wire, Force10 Networks, and BlueArc.

6. Josh Kopelman

Josh Kopelman has keen eyes when looking into micro VCs that have great potential, aside from being top-seeds at an earlier pace of the business. In fact, he goes places in New York, Silicon Valley, and Philadelphia in the search for these power seeds that would create fame in the industry. While he may hate travelling, which is kinda ironic, he has found his progress through Half.com, then via eBay, and Midas Capital.

5. Peter Fenton

Peter Fenton is one of those optimistic few that invested in Twitter during its early beginnings where there are only 25 members at the time. His most notable achievement is the 24-hour lead he initiated, which created $420 million when he sold SpringSource to VMWare, and FriendFeed to Facebook. It can be amazing that the other businesses he led, which are Wily Technology, Coremetrics, JBoss, Reactivity, Xensource, and Zimbra have all been acquired by big tech names such as CA, IBM, RedHat, Cisco, Citrix, and Yahoo! respectively.

4. David Sze

Even before Facebook was launched worldwide in the days when it was only used by over 10 million co-eds, David Sze was confident that his money would be used to revolutionalize social networking into an overwhelming scale. He had also led investments such as LinkedIn and Pandora, among many others like Digg, Seven, Oodle, VUDU, New Edge Networks, and Social Gaming Network with a few others.

3. Reid Hoffman

When it comes to investments, and using it to create huge business empires in the tech world, perhaps Reid Hoffman is one of the most profitable and valuable. This is because he has been a saving investors to some 80 companies in many places such as Facebook, Zynga, Flickr, Last.FM, MixerLabs, and One Kings Lane among the long list of benefited groups.

2. Marc Andreessen

Although Marc Andreessen had seen his share of ups and downs during his earlier involvement in the online tech industry, he was able to get the formula to success and used everything for his advantage. Netscape, Opsware, and Ning never had sunny days all the time, but it was more than enough experience to get him going to venture in huge names like Twitter, LinkedIn, Skype, Groupon, and Zynga even when everything was at its seed.

1. Jim Breyer

Mark Zuckerberg may have been a college dropout, but it was never enough to distract Jim Beyer from the possibility of seeing the next Bill Gates or Steve Jobs, where both have been known as student dropouts during their prime days. $12.7 million may be more than something you could risk for a college student, but he was right about placing investments in the right spot, which sprung at the dawn of the new networking generation.
