Many people made New Year goals and dreams recently. Half of the ones who have made those goals find themselves becoming discouraged already. You might even find yourself wanting to stop going after those goals. If you’re serious about those goals the last thing in the world you want to do right now is to stop going after them. This will cause you to even potentially give up on other things in life easily. You need to change your mindset and know that you can reach those dreams. Another thing, don’t feel discouraged if you think you’re the only one in the world that becomes this way after making goals. The good news, you are not.

Check out these 10 Ways to Overcome Discouragement

  1. Watch positive movies such as “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne

This very well could be one of the best ways to get over discouragement. Watching positive movies helps with changing your mind set. You can start to see things in a different way. Put aside a few minutes every day and listen to “The Secret” until you start to feel things change and work out.

  1. Start with short term goals

Long term goals can get frustrating fast. Let’s just say you want to lose a lot of weight for the year. Instead of looking at how much weight you need to lose, start with short term weight loss goals. If you lose track or cheat on your weight loss goal, get back to it and don’t stop.

  1. Take time out for you

We all need alone time. A lot of people get so busy and zoomed in on their goals that they could possibly neglect themselves. If your goal is to spend more time with people or get some cleaning done, you still need time for yourself. Watch a funny movie and just relax. You’ll be amazed at how refreshing it is to spend some time alone and might even help to clear your thoughts so you can achieve your goals.

  1. Make visualization boards

Create a board with all of your goals, wishes and dreams. If needed, make more than one board. This will be able to help you feel it better. You could have a dreams visualization board and then you could have a goals board. Cut out pictures in magazines to help you with your board. Put things that matter to you the most on your board, such as your family. If you want a new home cut out pictures of your family and post your dream home with your family in it.

  1. Learn new things

Don’t get so caught up in what you’re doing that you forget to learn new things. Attend some classes at a college, download new apps for the iPhone or android or whatever phone you might have. Watch YouTube videos that can teach you how to do new things. Something you learn could help with achieving your goal faster.

  1. Hang out with positive people

Being around negative people not only causes you to become tired often but can even discourage you with achieving your goals. Instead, try to hang out with people who will encourage and inspire you with your goals in life. It can be hard to cut those people out of your life but it will be worth it.

  1. Eat healthy and get rest

You can be so into trying to achieve your goals that you forget to eat healthy and get some rest. Eating healthy gives you energy, helps with boosting up your immune system and much more. It can even help you with getting the rest you need at night. Write down what you eat per day to help with making sure that you are eating healthy.

  1. Take 15 minutes per day to say positive affirmations

Try and take at least 15 minutes out of the day to say positive affirmations. Believe in those affirmations that you say daily. You know you can achieve your goals. Let this time help you with boosting up your spirit to go after them. If you’re feeling discouraged positive affirmations can lift your spirits up.

  1. Give to people who might need it

I am sure that you weren’t expecting to see this one on the list. When was the last time you stopped and helped out a person who needed it? Giving to people in need does wonders for your spirit and energizes you. Plus, you’re helping someone else out and you never know how that could end up. Give without expecting anything back but know if you give with a pure heart, it will come back to you at the time you need it. Just don’t make that the reason you give to people.

  1. Meditate and do some yoga

Perhaps, one of the best things you could do for yourself in order to overcome discouragement is to meditate or do yoga. This will help to clear your mind and energize yourself. If you don’t meditate then take time out to pray or either find yoga classes near you to help. You don’t even have to pray or meditate for a long time. All you need to do is just take at least 10 min out of the day in order to achieve this. It will clear your thoughts and help you to refocus on what all needs to be done.

if you continue to find yourself still discouraged, talk with a professional. Talking with someone might help you in many ways.
